I have chosen nursing as my career. I have known
for many years that this was to be my profession. I have always wanted
to be a nurse I am not sure why no one else in my family is or was ever
a nurse. I think it could be my love for wanting to help people, make people
feel better and knowledge of the human body and how it works. Nursing can
be a very rewarding, demanding and a little disappointing. Rewarding in
seeing how you can help and teach your patients how to get better and to
take better care of themselves. Demanding in the aspect of trying and wanting
to be in every room at the same time and disappointing in seeing that even
though you are doing every thing in your power to help this person there
is really nothing you can do to help them. When working as a nurse as I
have (nursing assistant) you have to go to work everyday with the attitude
to be prepared for anything. There are times when everything goes wrong
and you have to step back and figure out what to do next.
Nursing is a great field as far as finding a job. There is always
a need for nurses, in every community across the nation and world for that
matter. If you are not sure where you want to live or are just feeling
a little stuck in a rut then you should look into being a traveling nurse
this is a wonderful opportunity and a great experience. A traveling nurse
does just as it sounds they travel across the country working in different
medical facilities, staying in one location for about 3 to 6 months at
a time. This would be a good idea for a single person wanting to travel
before settling down or for a couple both in the medical field who can
work at the hospital together. The agencies that hire traveling nurses
often pay a bit more than a hospital and throw in rent and sometimes other
extra costs. Every agency is different you must find one that fits your
individual needs. Being a nurse is a good job to have if you have kids
or at least I think so. There are many different shifts at hospitals there
is the 3day-12hour shift, 5day-8hour shift, or the 2day-16hour shift and
some places offer other choices these are just the most common ones. Nursing
is also a good profession in which continuing education is always important.
You can never learn enough about the human body or the new technology that
is around to help. Also continuing your education can result in promotions,
going beyond the standard registered nurse can result in being a charge
nurse on a floor at a hospital or many other office positions and with
a masters degree a nurse can oversee their own patients and even write
prescriptions. There are many places and many things a nurse can do as
long as they have the right attitude and the willingness to help people.
